WWE Clash in Italy was the company's first-ever Premium Live Event held in Italy — and by most measures, it delivered. Five matches, four championship defenses, and a highly anticipated rematch all contributed to one of the more complete PLE offerings WWE has produced in 2026. However, a recurring theme emerged across the card: outstanding in-ring action paired with needlessly convoluted finishes.
Match-by-Match Breakdown
The show opened with its second-best match of the night, and arguably the right call for a red-hot Italian crowd. Cody Rhodes and Gunther are two of the most reliable in-ring performers in professional wrestling today, and they delivered an excellent championship match befitting the opener spot.
The controversy: Gunther's foot appeared to graze the rope following a Cross Rhodes, but the referee missed it and counted the pin for Rhodes. Post-match, Rhodes acknowledged the questionable finish and publicly offered Gunther a rematch — an gesture that felt more like a booking patch than a babyface moment. It unnecessarily extends a feud that had already run its natural course.
This was arguably Jade Cargill's best match to date. The chemistry between Ripley and Cargill has evolved significantly since their WrestleMania 42 encounter, and this rematch surpassed that already-impressive showing. Ripley, as always, elevated her opponent and made every nearfall feel earned.
The finish, however, was classic WWE overproduction. Cargill's associates B-Fab and Michin made their presence felt, only for Charlotte Flair to intervene on Ripley's behalf — placing Ripley's foot on the rope before the champion landed a Riptide for the victory. Flair vs. Cargill now appears to be the natural next feud. The action was sensational; the finish was chaotic in ways the match didn't need.
The match of the night. Lesnar and Femi threw everything at each other in a sprint-style brawl unlike almost anything WWE has produced recently. After absorbing four early F-5 attempts and kicking out, Femi launched into a furious comeback that had the crowd genuinely believing an upset was possible. The energy was comparable to Lesnar vs. Goldberg at its most chaotic.
Femi ultimately fell to a seventh F-5, a result that felt unnecessary from a long-term booking perspective — but if Lesnar had to go over, this was the most compelling way to do it. A trilogy match at SummerSlam feels like the clear direction. Femi's performance here should be remembered regardless of the outcome.
The cleanest finish of the entire night, and arguably the most satisfying. Sol Ruca earned her first clean main-roster win by dethroning Becky Lynch for the Women's Intercontinental Championship with a sudden Sol Snatcher. No interference, no shenanigans — just a wrestling match with a definitive outcome.
Lynch has been tied to this title since her return last year, so the feud likely continues — but Ruca's coronation moment was handled with the simplicity that the rest of the card sorely lacked. A star-making performance in every sense.
The most divisive match of the night. Reigns and Fatu delivered a physical affair filled with spears, Superman Punches, Tongan Death Grip attempts, and table spots — but the pacing was noticeably slower than anything else on the card, and the Italian crowd, electric all evening, felt the fatigue by the main event slot.
The stipulation — Tribal Combat, billed as the loser serving the winner — ultimately amounted to a dressed-up street fight with no meaningful differentiation from a standard no-DQ match. Fatu once again looked unstoppable, absorbed everything Reigns had, and still came up short. A post-match tease involving Solo Sikoa and what appears to be a Bloodline revival hints at a familiar direction for Reigns' title reign going forward.
